I'm using windows 11. I'm trying to move a file into a folder where a duplicate of this file exists.

In the "skip or replace files" dialog box, the "Compare info for both files" option doesn't work.

When you click it, nothing happens. I've found a reddit post that refers to 2 updates being the culprit (kb5065789 and kb5066835). It was suggested to uninstall these, however when I go to the uninstall updates setting, these 2 updates are not presented. I've confirmed that they were installed via the updates history screen.

  1. Are these updates to blame for the issue i'm having, if so, is there a fix?
  2. How can I uninstall these updates if they aren't in the list of updates to uninstall

Thanks in advance for any advise or solutions.

One of my PCs that was updated with KB5065789 and has had updates enabled continuously also developed the same issue. Yesterday that PC could still use the "Compare info for both files" feature, but today it suddenly stopped working just like my other PC. I'm certain no applications were installed during the period when it was working normally — I was only using my usual software like Blender. But today the "Compare info for both files" feature suddenly stopped functioning. So I believe that even PCs which previously installed KB5065789 and did not show the problem still carry a latent risk: you never know when the "Compare info for both files" feature will stop working.

    KB5072033 (26100.7462) still doesn't fix this.

I don't think I can't afford to hide updates any longer (and I have suspicion there are other Windows functions that aren't/won't be functioning correctly while I'm doing it). Time to use other file manager which, arguably, could actually be a better one than Windows'.

Today I turned on my computer (cold-boot) -- years ago, I used to just let my computer hibernated instead of turned it off, but not anymore; so I turn it off (no fast boot) at the end of the day. -- and... that darn "compare info" dialog IS back.

I'm on 26100.7462 as I said before, and there has been (at least) 3 cold-boots since KB5072033 was automatically installed. I vaguely remember to try copying existing files every now and then, but I can't be absolutely sure if I tried yesterday (as I mentioned before, I'm seeking/trying alternatives).

So here's hoping that Windows/Ms has finally background-fixed this, and it will stay fixed until the end of the day, and it will stay like that when I cold-start tomorrow and ever.
