Community Deleted

A Viva Engage community can be deleted by:

1. The community’s own admin from the community Settings page by selecting Delete this community and confirming.
2. A verified/network admin managing communities and groups across the Viva Engage network and Microsoft 365.
3. Microsoft 365 group lifecycle policies (for Microsoft 365–connected communities). If a connected Microsoft 365 group expires and is deleted by the group expiration policy, the associated Viva Engage community is also deleted.

None of the referenced documentation states that Viva Engage automatically notifies the original creator when a community is deleted by an admin or by group expiration. Deletion is treated as an admin/governance action, and the impact is described in terms of data retention and restore options, not user notifications.

If the community was Microsoft 365–connected, all associated Microsoft 365 resources (SharePoint site, document library, OneNote, Planner, etc.) are soft-deleted and can be restored by an administrator for a limited time, depending on retention and group restore windows.

To investigate a deletion:

1. Check with network/verified admins to see if they deleted or muted the community or if a Microsoft 365 group expiration policy removed it.
2. If it was Microsoft 365–connected, ask an admin to attempt a restore of the deleted Microsoft 365 group and associated resources using the standard group restore process.
