Trying to back up my onedrive onto my computer (don't like to keep it active on my PC because it messes with a lot of my programs). When I download anything it takes forever then says it has failed and when I resume it downloads as a txt file. How am I supposed to get my things off the cloud. When I had it active on the computer I also had issues getting it to move into folders that were PC>pictures instead of onedrive>pictures.

To download files from OneDrive without encountering issues like failed downloads or files being saved as .txt, consider the following steps:

    1. Use a Stable Internet Connection: Ensure that you have a reliable and stable internet connection to avoid interruptions during the download process.
    2. Download Files Individually: Instead of downloading multiple files at once, try downloading them one at a time. This can help reduce the load and minimize the chances of failure.
    3. Check Browser Settings: Sometimes, browser settings can affect downloads. Make sure your browser is up to date and check if there are any download restrictions or settings that might be causing issues.
    4. Clear Browser Cache: Clearing your browser's cache and cookies can help resolve any temporary issues that may be affecting downloads.
    5. Use OneDrive App: If possible, consider using the OneDrive desktop application instead of the web version. This can provide a more stable experience for syncing and downloading files.
    6. Organize Files Before Downloading: If you have issues with files moving into the correct folders, make sure to organize your files in OneDrive before downloading them. This way, you can easily manage where they go on your PC after downloading.

If you continue to experience issues, you may want to consult the OneDrive support documentation or forums for additional troubleshooting steps specific to your situation.

Thanks for the details, Darlene! Try to turn Off “Open Files in Browser” in OneDrive

OneDrive sometimes forces certain file types to open in-browser, confusing the download headers and causing failed or .txt downloads.

    Fix:

    • Go to OneDrive.com
    • Click Settings (⚙️ top-right)
    • Go to OneDrive Settings
    • Find Open Office files in browser → Turn it OFF

This forces OneDrive to deliver the file as a proper download instead of a web preview stream.

See if this helps. If you need further assistance just let me know.

    Best regards,

    Kimberly

When I had [OneDrive] active on the computer, I also had issues getting it to move into folders that were PC>pictures instead of onedrive>pictures.

You have trouble because you need to turn off the Pictures folder backup in Manage Backup.
