To troubleshoot sound issues on your Windows 11 device, particularly on a Microsoft Surface Pro 10, you can follow these steps:

    1. Check Volume Settings: Ensure that the volume is not muted. You can do this by clicking on the speaker icon in the taskbar and adjusting the volume slider.
    2. Check Output Device: Right-click the speaker icon in the taskbar, select "Open Sound settings," and ensure the correct output device is selected.
    3. Update Audio Drivers: Sometimes, outdated drivers can cause sound issues. You can update your audio drivers by going to "Settings" > "Windows Update" > "Check for updates." This will install the latest drivers if available.
    4. Run the Audio Troubleshooter: Go to "Settings" > "System" > "Sound" and scroll down to find the "Troubleshoot" option under the Output section. This can help identify and fix common audio problems.
    5. Check for Compatibility Issues: If you have recently updated to Windows 11, ensure that your audio drivers are compatible with the new version. If you encounter issues related to the Intel Smart Sound Technology drivers, you may need to update them to the latest version as mentioned in the resolved issues for Windows 11.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, you may need to contact your device manufacturer for further assistance.

"speaker has a x by it" usually just means that you have pressed the MUTE button. It is F1 key on my keyboard.
