Multiple UI and Input Issues in Edge for Android

Hi everyone,

I'm experiencing several frustrating issues with Microsoft Edge on Android (version 141.0.3537.91), and I’m hoping someone can help or confirm if these are known bugs.

Device & OS Info:

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5

Android 16 with One UI 8

Issues:

Webpages appear half dark: Some websites load with half the screen in a dark overlay. It’s not consistent and seems unrelated to dark mode settings. I’ve attached a screenshot for reference.

Address bar typing bug: Occasionally, I can’t type in the address bar. I have to switch tabs or exit and re-enter the tab before the keyboard responds.

Keyboard overlapping input fields: On websites like Outlook Web and Copilot Web, the keyboard covers the text input field. Even after dismissing the keyboard, tapping the field again causes it to reappear and overlap the input area.

Missing text selection popup: When selecting text, the usual popup with “Cut”, “Copy”, “Paste”, and “Select All” doesn’t appear. This might be an Android issue, but it’s happening frequently in Edge.

Troubleshooting steps I’ve already tried:

Cleared app data and cache

Reinstalled Edge

Restarted the phone

I’ve recently upgraded from older Samsung models (S6 → S9 → Z Flip 5), and while the feature set has grown impressively, I’m also seeing more bugs and glitches than ever before.

Would appreciate any insights, fixes, or confirmation from others experiencing similar problems.

Thanks in advance!

I wiped the cache partition in recovery mode, hoping it would resolve the issue — unfortunately, it didn’t.

While researching online, I came across a Reddit post from a few years ago where users reported the same issue, but in the Google Search app. That makes me suspect this might be a system-wide problem. According to those users, rolling back an update or clearing the app cache helped fix it. I’ve already tried both with the Microsoft Edge app.

As you suggested, I installed the Microsoft Edge Beta app. This version, which is a few updates ahead, doesn’t seem to have the issue — at least not yet. What caused the problem or what fixed it, I honestly don’t know.

Still, I’m not comfortable relying on a beta version that might introduce other bugs. I just want a stable release of Microsoft Edge. I’m really disappointed with the current state of Android and how apps are developed these days. Maybe I’m overreacting, but it genuinely frustrates me when things don’t work as they should.

Hello Robin S, Thanks for posting this in our community. The top half of the page looks normal, while the bottom half is completely black, which is not part of the webpage content. This confirms a rendering or UI bug in Edge for Android.

Try disabling hardware acceleration by going to edge://flags and searching for “GPU rasterization” and “Enable Surface Control,” then set both to Disabled. Restart Edge after making these changes.

If the issue persists, consider switching to Edge Beta or Edge Canary from Google Play, as these versions often include rendering fixes for newer Android versions.

    Kind regards,

    John Oli

    Hi John,

Thanks for your response and suggestions.

I’ve disabled GPU rasterization as advised, but I couldn’t find the “Enable Surface Control” flag — it doesn’t appear in my version of Edge. Unfortunately, the issue still persists.

In fact, I’m now also seeing pages that are half white, including the area beneath the keyboard. It seems to be related to the keyboard’s behavior: when I open or close the keyboard, I notice a white flicker, and that often triggers the half-white or half-dark rendering issue.

There appears to be a pattern:

Light-themed websites (without dark mode support) sometimes render half dark

Dark-themed websites sometimes render half white

The issue is often triggered by toggling the keyboard

This makes me suspect the bug is tied to how Edge handles keyboard overlays in combination with dark mode rendering.

I’ll consider trying Edge Beta or Canary as you suggested to see if the issue is resolved in those versions.

    Thanks again for your help!

    Best regards, Robin S
