Hello there,
This issue is likely caused by a combination of browser extensions, cached data, or security settings interfering with link handling and CAPTCHA feature in Microsoft Edge.
Try these fixes.
- Clear Edge Cache and Cookies
Go to Settings > Privacy, Search, and Services > Clear browsing data
Click “Choose what to clear” and select “Cookies and other site data” and “Cached images and files”
Restart Edge and test the links again
- Disable Extensions
Some extensions (especially ad blockers, privacy tools, or script managers) can block link behavior and CAPTCHA scripts
Go to Settings > Extensions and disable all extensions
Restart Edge and test the issue
If resolved, re-enable extensions one by one to find the culprit
- Reset Site Permissions
Go to Settings > Cookies and site permissions
Scroll down to “All permissions” and click “View permissions and data stored across sites”
Search for the affected site (e.g., LinkedIn) and click “Clear data”
Then revisit the site and allow necessary permissions (pop-ups, JavaScript, etc.)
- Enable JavaScript
Go to Settings > Cookies and site permissions > JavaScript
Ensure JavaScript is allowed globally or for the affected sites
CAPTCHA and comment boxes often rely on JavaScript
>>5. Turn Off Tracking Prevention Temporarily
Go to Settings > Privacy, Search, and Services
Set Tracking Prevention to “Basic”
Some sites may block functionality if aggressive tracking prevention is enabled
- Try InPrivate Mode
Open Edge in InPrivate mode (Ctrl + Shift + N)
Visit the site and test the link behavior
If it works, the issue is likely tied to cookies, extensions, or cached data
- Update Edge
Go to Settings > About Microsoft Edge
Ensure you’re running the latest version
Updates often fix compatibility issues with web components like CAPTCHA
- Reset Edge Settings
Go to Settings > Reset settings > Restore settings to their default values
This will disable extensions and reset site permissions without deleting your bookmarks.
If CAPTCHA errors persist across multiple sites, it may also help to flush your DNS cache:
Open Command Prompt and run:
ipconfig /flushdns
Let me know what happens.
Kind regards,
Rez
