New Outlook refuses to open

I have been using new Outlook for a while, but it has started refusing to open - when I click on it, there's no reaction and nothing showing as running in Task Manager. Old Outlook opens fine and I can also access my email via Outlook online.

I have tried:

  • Multiple restarts
  • Uninstalling and reinstalling new Outlook (multiple times)
  • Repairing and resetting Office
  • Checking for Windows updates (all up to date as of this morning)

I'm running Windows 11 Home but with Business Premium Office apps, if that makes a difference.

    Hello Elaine Graham-Leigh1,

Thank you so much for following up with your solution! It's great to hear that you've resolved the issue with the new Outlook not opening by reinstalling Microsoft Edge WebView2, which also fixed Microsoft Teams. You're absolutely correct—Edge WebView2 is indeed a core component used by several modern Microsoft apps, including the new Outlook, to display web-based content within their interfaces. When WebView2 is missing or corrupted, these apps can fail to launch or function properly.

Thanks for updating! I'm so glad to hear that you have managed to fix the issue. I think your solution can help others who are facing the same situation, so I made some summary about the scenario:

    **Symptom:**New Outlook not opening

When I click on it, there's no reaction and nothing showing as running in Task Manager.

    Solution:

If anyone else is experiencing a similar issue with the new Outlook (or Microsoft Teams) not opening and no error messages appearing:

    1. Check if Microsoft Edge WebView2 is missing.
    2. Download and reinstall WebView2 from Microsoft's official site.
    3. Run the installer as an administrator.
    4. Once WebView2 is installed, try opening the new Outlook again.

This simple step could be the fix for those encountering the same issue.

Your solution is a valuable contribution to the community, and I encourage others who find this helpful to upvote your reply so it gains visibility and can assist more users in the future.

Once again, thank you for sharing this, and I’m sure it will help others facing the same problem!

The information can provide much reference to other users in this forum, would you please help vote on this reply, so that others can see the information and get benefit from it. Thanks in advance!

At this point, we highly appreciate your precious time and kind cooperation. Thank you.

    Have a great day!

    Sincerely,

Same thing is happening to me.....why do they sell you the yearly subscription and do updates that mess things up prior to finding the fixes. Makes me want to change to another system.
