Microsoft Edge quits seconds after launch. MacOS Catalina

Edge has suddenly started quitting almost immediately after launch. The longest it has stayed open so far is just under a minute. I tried updating, but it quit before the download could even start. I downloaded the latest installer and manually replaced the previous version. It's still the same behaviour. I restarted my computer, the issue persists.

I saw a previous post about this from 2022 but it seems there was no solution back then. Is that still the case? I need see if I have to transfer everything back to chrome.

Microsoft Edge’s Split Screen feature allows you to view two web pages side-by-side within the same browser window, enhancing multitasking and productivity. You can manage the split screen by adjusting window sizes, exiting split screen mode, switching left and right tabs, and switching to vertical view. If many tabs are open in a window, one or more may be split screen tabs.

So maybe a specific chromium build issue? That might be it. Either way, Edge spontaneously fixed itself with no apparent input from me, but I'm still using Safari as my primary for now. Perhaps an update cleared it up or one of my restarts since then. The fact that this has seemingly been happening for at least a couple of years is worrying.
