edge on iphone locks up on payment pages

I can’t buy anything using Edge browser on my iPhone. The card selection screen pops up and then the browser just locks up completely. After what feels like an age, it will eventually close down. This behaviour happens everytime. The app is up to date. Seems like a simple case of using another browser but I use edge on my pc so things are synced. I’d rather not use safari on my phone.

    Hi Chris,

Thank you for using Microsoft products and making community posts.

I understands the importance of resolving this issue, Don’t worry I will be helping you with this following steps.

    1. Force Close & Restart Edge
      • Double-check that Edge isn’t running in the background by swiping up and closing the app.
      • Relaunch it and try again.
    2. Clear Cache & Cookies
      • Open Edge, go to Settings > Privacy and clear cache/cookies.
      • Restart the app afterward.
    3. Disable Extensions
      • If you have any extensions installed, try disabling them and see if the issue persists.
    4. Try Using Private Mode
      • Open Edge in InPrivate browsing mode and attempt the transaction again.
    5. Check Payment Site Compatibility
      • Some websites don’t play well with Edge on mobile. If possible, try making the payment on your PC instead.
    6. Reinstall Edge
      • Uninstall Edge from your iPhone, then reinstall it from the App Store.

Please feel free to let me know how it goes.

Thanks but browsers need to work reliably. So I’ve switched back to using safari most of the time now. Shame because I liked sharing my passwords with my desktop browser.

    Hi Chris,

    Thank you for your response.

    Did it fix the problem?

There are several reasons why your phone's browser might be having issues and that is somehow inevitable but here some tips to avoid problem on your browser.

    Preventive Measures

    1. Keep Your Browser Updated
      • Regularly check for updates in the Google Play Store or App Store to ensure you have the latest version.
    2. Clear Cache and Cookies Regularly
      • Go to Settings > Apps > Your Browser > Clear Cache & Clear Data to prevent slowdowns and crashes.
    3. Use a Stable Internet Connection
      • Ensure you're connected to a reliable Wi-Fi or mobile data network to avoid loading issues.
    4. Limit Extensions and Plugins
      • Too many browser extensions can cause performance issues. Disable unnecessary ones in browser settings.
    5. Avoid In-App Browsers
      • Some apps use built-in browsers that may not be secure or optimized. Open links in your default browser instead.
    6. Manage Storage Space
      • A full storage can slow down your browser. Regularly delete unnecessary files and apps.
    7. Enable Automatic Updates for Your Phone
      • Keeping your phone’s OS updated ensures compatibility with the latest browser versions.
    8. Use a Trusted Browser
      • Stick to well-known browsers like Chrome, Firefox, Edge, or Safari for better security and performance.
