Business value
Productivity increases when processes are easy, so we improved the usability of several areas within inventory and warehouse management. For example, you can get help to create warehouse employees, and in several places you can more easily access and digest data.
Feature details
Based on feedback from our customers, we made it easier to complete several inventory and warehouse processes.
Carry item description to warehouse entries
When you reconcile or audit data, it's useful to have the description of the item from the source document on the warehouse ledger entries.
On the Warehouse Setup page, select the Copy Item Descr. to Entries check box. When you make transactions at locations that require bins, the description text on lines of type Item carries over to the warehouse entries.

When you turn on this feature, Business Central suggests that you update empty descriptions in existing warehouse entries. If you have a large number of warehouse entries, adding descriptions might take some time.
Assign lot and package numbers to existing item tracking lines
The Assign Lot No. and Assign Package No. actions now support:
- Selecting multiple lines.
- Selecting existing lines, such as lines where the serial number or lot is already filled in, and assigning a package number when it's missing. You can assign lot numbers in the same way. These actions don't overwrite existing package or lot numbers.

You can still use this action to create new lines with lot numbers or package numbers and manually redistribute quantities.
The Assign Serial No. request page includes a Create New Package No. toggle. It works like Create New Lot No. and assigns one package number to all created serial numbers.
Warehouse item tracking lines
The Warehouse Item Tracking Lines page has the same enhancements as the Item Tracking Lines page:
- The Quantity (Base) field has an indicator that reminds you to specify a quantity.
- The confirmation dialog makes sure you're aware of potential data loss if you leave the Quantity (Base) field empty.
- Drilldown in the Item Tracking Code field helps you easily go to the related item tracking record and explore its settings.
