If files were moved from the PC into OneDrive and are still present in OneDrive online, there are two main options to get them back onto the hard drive:
- Download files from OneDrive web to the hard drive
- Go to the OneDrive website and sign in with the same account.
- Browse to the folders/files that need to be back on the PC.
- Select them and use the Download option, then save them to the desired folder on the C: drive (for example, a folder in
C:\Users\<name>\Documents that is not synced to OneDrive).
- Use OneDrive restore if files were deleted/overwritten recently
If files were deleted or changed in the last 30 days and a Microsoft 365 subscription is active, the entire OneDrive can be rolled back to a previous point in time:
- Go to the OneDrive website and sign in.
- For personal accounts with a Microsoft 365 subscription: at the top of the page select Settings > Options, then select Restore your OneDrive from the left navigation.
- On the Restore your OneDrive page, pick a date (for example Yesterday) or Custom date and time.
- Use the activity chart and feed to choose the point before the files were moved/deleted, then select Restore.
- After restore completes, sync or download the restored files back to a non‑OneDrive folder on the hard drive as needed.
If files were deleted from OneDrive and are not visible in the OneDrive recycle bin, and are also not present in any local Recycle Bin/Trash, they cannot be recovered using native OneDrive tools.
