Additional features, settings, or issues not covered by specific Microsoft Teams categories
Hi @Jacob Butler,
Thanks for your detailed description, you’re not alone in seeing this with multi‑monitor setups.
At the moment, this behavior is expected in Microsoft Teams (both classic and new Teams). Unlike other Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, or Outlook, Teams does not currently remember which monitor it was last used on. As a result, each time Teams starts, it automatically opens on the primary display, even if it was previously closed on a different monitor.
While there is no built‑in setting to change this yet, the following options may help improve your experience:
Option 1: Keep Teams running
After launching Teams, move it to your preferred monitor and minimize the application instead of closing it. As long as Teams remains active in the background, it will reopen in the same location.
Option 2: Use Windows window‑movement shortcuts
Once Teams is open, you can quickly move it between monitors using:
Win + Shift + Left Arrow
Win + Shift + Right Arrow
This is a fast way to place Teams on your desired screen.
Option 3: Change your primary display (if possible)
If it fits your setup, you may consider setting your preferred monitor as the primary one:
Go to Settings > System > Display
Select the monitor you prefer
Enable Make this my main display
Teams will then launch on that monitor by default.
