    Hello @iMac2 iMac2,

I'm sorry to hear that the admin account is locked out due to Authenticator.

Please understand that moderators on this platform are not permitted to contact users directly via phone or email, as this is outside the scope of our role. Additionally, this is a public forum, so any personal or sensitive information shared will be removed. To resolve your issue, please refer to this instruction:

Based on your description, you'll need to revoke your MFA access, which will allow you to set up Authenticator on a new device and then you can access other Microsoft services.

Please check to see if there are other IT admins in your organization who can help you with the reset. Ask your administrator to follow these steps:

    • Go to Microsoft Entra Admin Center: https://entra.microsoft.com
    • Navigate to Users > All Users.
    • Select your user account.
    • Go to Authentication Methods.
    • Click "Require re-register multifactor authentication".

    User's image

This will reset your MFA settings. The next time you sign in, you’ll be prompted to set up the Authenticator app again using a QR code.

If you are the only administrator in your organization, you will need to contact the Microsoft Data Protection team, as they are the only group authorized and equipped with the necessary tools and verification procedures to confirm your identity and restore administrator access.

Please try to find the related hotline number to call the frontline and let them raise a ticket for you: Customer service phone numbers - Microsoft Support

Carefully follow this instruction to ask for Microsoft Data Protection team support:

Depending on your country or region. For some countries, when calling the support number, although there are about 30 seconds opening as something "you can visit the link...." But you can ignore this opening and wait until the option, then "1" as a business email user, "1" again for technical help.

For some countries, it will be an automated conversation like:

    • First, when you call the hotline, it asks what kind of problem you are worried about.
    • Answered: authenticator.
    • A: What kind of product are you using?
    • B: Microsoft 365 for business.
    • A confirmation: education or company account?
    • B: For companies
    • A: Are you an administrator?
    • B: Yes.
    • A: Do you have the other admin in your organization?
    • B: No.
    • A: You need one.... Service request?
    • B: Yes

If your organization's subscription is from a partner or reseller, contact the reseller's support provider to help open a service request on behalf of you instead.

Please understand that forum moderators have no control over user accounts, especially when it comes to logging in to your account, resetting your password, changing your access, etc.

If you encounter any difficulties in contacting the frontline support, please feel free to let me know. Thank you and I wish you a great day!

Because the only configured multifactor authentication method is Microsoft Authenticator and it is not available, access to the Microsoft 365 admin center requires an MFA reset by an administrator or by Microsoft support.

Use the path that matches the situation:

    1. If there is another global administrator in the tenant
    • Ask that admin to:
      1. Sign in to the Microsoft Entra admin center (or Microsoft 365 admin center).
      2. Go to Users → select the affected admin account.
      3. Open Authentication methods.
      4. Select Require re-register multifactor authentication.
    • After this, sign in again with the affected admin account. It will prompt to set up MFA from scratch and allow adding Microsoft Authenticator on the new device.
    1. If there is no other global administrator (only one admin, now locked out)
    • This requires Microsoft Data Protection / Tenant Recovery support.
    • Call Microsoft using the regional Customer service phone numbers - Microsoft Support listed in the article referenced below.
    • When the IVR/agent asks, clearly state:
      • The issue is with Authenticator / MFA.
      • The product is Office 365/Microsoft 365 for business.
      • It is a company (work) account.
      • The caller is the only global administrator and is locked out.
      • A Data Protection Team / tenant admin MFA reset is needed.
    • Be prepared to provide:
      • The tenant domain (for example, baypress.onmicrosoft.com).
      • The affected admin username(s).
      • Contact details and any requested verification information.
    1. If completely unable to reach the correct support team
    • As a workaround, create a temporary trial tenant:
      1. Sign up for a Microsoft 365 trial tenant as described in the referenced Q&A.
      2. Sign in to the new tenant’s Microsoft 365 admin center.
      3. Go to Support → Help & support and open a ticket.
      4. In the ticket, explain that access is needed to a different existing tenant where the caller is the only global admin and is locked out due to MFA (Authenticator) loss.
    • The Data Protection team can then work with the caller to verify identity and reset MFA for the original tenant.

Until MFA is reset by another global admin or by Microsoft’s Data Protection team, sign-in to the admin panel for that account cannot be completed.
