I understand how frustrating it is to have issues with your Windows Hello PIN, even after resetting it. Before getting further, I need to note that Microsoft Q&A is a user-to-user support forum, you won't be able to reach Microsoft Support team from here. Now back to the issue, it appears the PIN infrastructure itself may be broken, so here are some options you can try:
1 - Remove the broken Hello PIN container
Make sure you can still use your Microsoft account password
- Go to Sign-in options > Remove PIN (if possible) > restart.
- Press Win + R > type
services.msc> press Enter. - Find > right-click > Stop these services:
- Microsoft Passport
- Microsoft Passport Container.
- Open File Explorer > go to: C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\LocalService\AppData\Local\Microsoft
- Open Ngc folder and delete everything inside (may need admin rights)
- Restart your PC > go back to Sign‑in options and set up a new PIN.
2 - Confirm TPM is working
Press Win + R > type tpm.msc > press Enter.
Confirm Status shows TPM is ready for use
If TPM is present but not ready:
Restart your PC into BIOS/UEFI
Ensure TPM / PTT / fTPM is enabled
Save and reboot > then reset the PIN again.
3 - Reinstallation repair (keeping files and apps)
Open Settings > System > Recovery > Fix problems using Windows Update
Click Reinstall now > follow the onscreen instructions to reinstall Windows.
Disclaimer: This reinstallation can fix update issues without removing your files or applications. However, we always recommend that if you have important data, you should back it up.
While troubleshooting, use your Microsoft account password or another available option (such as fingerprint, facial recognition or security key) to make sure you’re not locked out of your PC.
