A web-based tool in Microsoft 365 that enables users to quickly create surveys, quizzes, polls, and feedback forms.
Hi @AbbeyHolsopple,
Thank you for reaching out about Microsoft Forms notifications.
It appears that the “Get email notification for each response” option is not visible, even though the form isn’t associated with a Microsoft 365 group.
In the current Microsoft Forms experience, this setting is often no longer displayed as a standalone checkbox in the location you may be checking. Instead, it has typically been moved under Response receipts (sometimes within More form settings) or can be enabled during the Collect responses process.
1/ Check the updated location: Response receipts (most common solution)
Based on Microsoft’s current guidance, email notifications can be enabled from the Settings pane as follows:
More form settings (⋯) > Settings > Response receipts > Get email notification of each response
- Open the form in the web Forms portal (recommended): https://forms.office.com
- Open your form and select ⋯ (More form settings) > Settings
- Scroll down in the Settings pane and look for Response receipts
- Turn on Get email notification of each response
If the Response receipts section is present, this is where the notification toggle is now located.
Note: The Settings pane is scrollable, and depending on screen size or service rollout, additional sections may appear below what’s immediately visible. In some cases, the pane may extend beyond options such as Allow respondents to save their responses, even if it doesn’t initially seem so.
For more detail steps: Send form invitations and manage notifications - Microsoft Support.
2/ Enable notifications from Collect responses (alternative approach)
Microsoft also supports enabling notifications during the invitation flow, which can help if the setting isn’t easily found in Settings:
- Open the form and select Collect responses
- Choose an invitation method (for example, Outlook or Teams)
- In the confirmation window, turn on Get notification messages
This method often works as a quick workaround if the Settings pane doesn’t display the option as expected: Send form invitations and manage notifications - Microsoft Support.
3/ If the option is still unavailable
If the notification toggle does not appear in either location, this may be related to tenant-level or service-side limitations.
To further troubleshoot:
- Try accessing the form in a different browser or using InPrivate/Incognito mode to rule out cached UI issues
- Ensure you are the form owner, as notification settings are primarily available to owners and may behave differently for co-authors
- Ask another user in the same tenant to check whether they see the option on any form
If the issue appears tenant-wide, it’s recommended to contact your IT admin to open a support request through the Microsoft 365 Admin Center, as this may require backend review.
Please try the steps above and let me know whether they resolve the issue. If the problem persists, I’ll be happy to continue working with you to find a solution.
