The work OneDrive account on the laptop is managed by the organization, and an administrator has applied a policy that blocks adding or running a personal OneDrive account on that computer. This is why File Explorer will not let a personal OneDrive be set up and shows that the administrator does not allow it.
On managed devices, this is typically enforced through Group Policy or similar management tools. For example, a policy can prevent the OneDrive consumer sync app from starting or block additional accounts.
To use both work and personal OneDrive on the same device in File Explorer, the organization’s administrator must change or remove the blocking policy. Without that change, the restriction cannot be bypassed locally.
Recommended action:
- Contact the work IT administrator or help desk.
- Explain that a personal OneDrive account needs to be added on the personal laptop.
- Ask whether they can adjust the OneDrive/Windows policy to allow personal OneDrive, or confirm that it is intentionally blocked.
If the organization chooses to keep the block in place, personal OneDrive can still be accessed via a web browser at OneDrive.com, but not as a synced folder in File Explorer on that managed configuration.
