Additional team and channel-related features and issues within Microsoft Teams for business
Hi @Carosilva, Joey,
Thank you for reaching out with your question about using Shifts in Microsoft Teams.
As you plan your move from an Excel-based schedule to a Teams site, it makes sense to validate whether the structure you’re considering - such as the number of groups and members - will be fully supported and manageable.
What you’re encountering is most likely related to the Shifts user interface or client display behavior, rather than a fixed system limit that would prevent you from creating or using approximately 31 groups.
1/ Is there a limit to the number of schedule groups in Shifts?
Microsoft’s documentation describes schedule groups as something you create as needed and does not publish a specific maximum number of groups. In other words, there is no documented hard cap such as “only 10 groups allowed.”
It’s also helpful to clarify how Shifts is structured:
- Each Team in Microsoft Teams has one schedule in Shifts (schedules are not created per channel).
- Within that schedule, you can create multiple schedule groups, typically used to represent roles, departments, or functions.
From a design perspective, having around 31 schedule groups aligns with the intended use of Shifts.
For more information, please refer to Create a team schedule in Shifts - Microsoft Support.
2/ Will having about 31 groups with about 15 members each cause problems?
From a capacity standpoint, this setup is well within supported limits. A single Team in Microsoft Teams can include up to 25,000 members, so 31 groups with approximately 15 members each—even with users appearing in multiple groups—does not approach any underlying membership limits.
A few important notes:
- Only members of the Team can be added to schedule groups in Shifts.
- Guests are not supported in Shifts schedules.
- Changes to Team membership may take some time to fully reflect in Shifts.

3/ Why does it look like only 10 groups are visible?
Seeing only the first 10 groups and being unable to scroll further is commonly associated with layout or rendering behavior, not an enforced group limit. This can occur due to:
- Window size or screen resolution constraints
- Display scaling or zoom level
- Differences between Teams desktop, web, or mobile clients
- Temporary client or cache-related issues
To help rule this out, please try:
- Opening Shifts in Teams on the web https://teams.cloud.microsoft/ and comparing behavior with the desktop app
- Maximize the Teams window and adjust your display scaling or zoom level (for example, set browser zoom between 90% and 100%).
- Adjusting display scaling or browser zoom to around 90–100%.
Hopefully, these steps help clarify the situation and address the issue. Please try them and share your findings, particularly whether Teams on the web behaves differently on the affected PC. If the issue continues, I’ll be glad to assist with further troubleshooting.
