Hello. I am trying to purchase a standalone Sharepoint Plan 1 for myself and 2 colleagues. I have tried two different emails to I can complete the purchase and each time I tried to complete account sign up I receive a message that my address can not be validated (it is a Bahrain address) and my card details are not accepted for payment. When I try to log in to see if I can complete the sign up, the country field is greyed out and there are error messages throughout my profile saying invalid phone number etc as I can't change the country to Bahrain???

It is very frustrating. Please advise how I can purchase Sharepoint Plan 1 as a Bahrain resident.

Many thanks,

Joanna

    Dear Joanna,

Thank you for your patience, and I understand how inconvenient this experience must be.

Based on your description, the issue you are encountering is likely not caused by your address or payment method alone. Microsoft has recently announced changes regarding the availability of standalone SharePoint Online plans (including SharePoint Plan 1).

Specifically, Microsoft is in the process of retiring standalone SharePoint Online plans for new customers. As part of this transition, the ability to purchase these plans directly (self-service purchase) may be limited or unavailable in certain regions and scenarios. Unfortunately, this is not always communicated clearly in the purchase flow and can instead surface as validation errors related to address, country, or payment details.

    This would explain why:

    • Your Bahrain address cannot be validated
    • Your payment method is not accepted
    • The country field is locked and cannot be adjusted

These behaviors are consistent with cases where the selected product is no longer available for purchase under the current account or region configuration.

To proceed, you may consider the following options:

    1. Use a Microsoft 365 bundled plan Plans such as Microsoft 365 Business Basic, Business Standard, or Enterprise (E3/E5) already include SharePoint Online and are fully supported for new purchases.
    2. Contact a Microsoft partner or reseller In some cases, local Cloud Solution Providers (CSPs) may still be able to assist with licensing options or recommend suitable alternatives based on your region. You can contact a Microsoft Partner by go to this link, then click Discover here: Find a Microsoft partnerer

Please note that this forum operates as a user-to-user support platform, so I do not have access to your account or billing system to verify this directly. However, the behavior you described aligns closely with recent changes to licensing availability.

If you have any further questions or need help selecting an alternative plan, feel free to reply, I’d be happy to assist.

Of course, I created the account initially with the country as Bahrain, and there were no errors in my profile. Why is the country now greyed out, and I have to amend all the details I have already entered?

The behavior matches known issues where Microsoft commerce can’t validate profile or payment details, which then blocks purchases.

Use these steps to resolve and complete the SharePoint Plan 1 purchase:

    1. Fix profile validation issues
      • Sign in to the Microsoft 365 portal with the account being used for purchase.
      • Go to the organization/company profile and make sure all required fields have valid data: address, city, state, ZIP/postal code, and phone number.
      • Ensure the phone number format matches what the form expects for the selected country/region.
      • Save the profile changes.
    2. Correct user profile details
      • After updating the company/organization profile, edit the user’s own profile (the account used to buy SharePoint Plan 1).
      • Confirm the same fields (address, city, state, ZIP/postal code, phone) are valid and consistent.
      • Save changes, sign out, then sign back in.
    3. Browser and security settings
      • Use a supported browser and make sure cookies are allowed for Microsoft sites.
      • If using Internet Explorer or legacy environments, ensure Protected Mode is enabled for both Internet and Local intranet zones, and that cookies are not disabled (privacy level Medium or equivalent, or explicitly allow cookies).
      • If issues persist, try InPrivate/Incognito mode or a different browser.
    4. Retry the purchase
      • After fixing profile data and signing out/in, retry purchasing SharePoint Plan 1.
      • Make sure the billing address on the card exactly matches the address registered with the bank.
    5. If the country/region is wrong and greyed out
      • If the account was originally created with a different country/region and that field is now locked, the tenant’s commerce region may not match Bahrain.
      • In that case, create a new Microsoft 365 tenant with Bahrain selected as the country/region during sign-up, then purchase SharePoint Plan 1 in that tenant.
    6. If purchase still fails
      • If the portal continues to reject the address or card after the above steps, contact Microsoft Support so the billing team can review the account and regional settings and help complete the purchase.
