In OneDrive when I right click on a recent file I should see a picklist which includes "Version History." Instead, I get this:

Why am I not getting the picklist which I expect to get?

As far as I can tell, you're not seeing the full OneDrive context menu because you might not be right-clicking the file in its actual OneDrive location. That menu in your screenshot is the simplified “recent files” menu, which only shows a few quick actions like Open and Share.

In OneDrive, “Version history” only appears when you access the file from its real location, such as the OneDrive web file list or the synced OneDrive folder in File Explorer. The Recent view and some app-based lists don’t expose the full set of file actions.

If you’re on Windows 11, there’s another layer to this. The default right-click menu is condensed, and “Version history” may be hidden under the classic menu. In that case, after right-clicking, choose Show more options and then look for Version history there.

So the issue is not that Version History is missing, but that you’re interacting with a limited context (Recent view or compact menu) rather than the full file location and full menu.
