Additional team and channel-related features and issues within Microsoft Teams for business
Hello @Oh, Ji-Nu,
Good day! I hope you're doing well.
Microsoft Teams currently does not support adding visual labels or numbering (like 01, 02, 03) next to files in the Files view.
The Files tab in a Teams channel is a SharePoint document library. That interface only supports file names, folders, and metadata columns. At the moment, I couldn't find any built‑in way to display custom badges, left‑side labels, or visual numbering beside each file as shown in your screenshot.
However, you can refer to these supported alternatives:
1. Number the file names (recommended): This is the most common and reliable approach.
- Name your file 01_Overview.pptx 02_Design.pptx 03_Results.pptx
Files will sort correctly and the order is visible everywhere (Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive).
2. Use a Choice column (metadata):
- You can add a custom column (for example, Order or Sequence) in the Files tab, then use Edit in grid view to assign values such as 1, 2, or 3.
- After that, sort the view by this column.
- Note: This appears as a column in the list and not as a visual label beside the file name.
3. Folder-based numbering
- Create folders such as:
- 01 - Planning
- 02 - Execution
- 03 - Review
If you would like to see this feature added in the future, I encourage you to submit feedback or upvote related requests in the Microsoft Teams Feedback portal.
- Go to Microsoft Teams · Community
- Sign in with your Microsoft account.
- Choose Send Feedback and fill in the form.
- Describe your suggestion clearly and concisely.
- Submit and optionally upvote similar ideas from other users.
Report via Teams app:
- Click the three dots next to your profile > Feedback > Choose Suggest a feature.
- You can fill in the form with your ideas and description to submit feedback.
Microsoft’s product team actively reviews customer submissions, and many improvements have been introduced based on user demand and real‑world usage scenarios. Submitting and upvoting feedback is the most effective way to help prioritize this feature for future updates.
In the meantime, you can check Microsoft 365 Roadmap for updating features in the future.
Please feel free to let me know if you need further assistance. Thank you and I wish you a great day!
