Shortly after the installation of 25H2 my Remote Desktop quite working. I shutdown and rebooted to no avail. So l restored my computer to "Out of the Box" status. My Remote Desktop was working. Took a whole system backup and installed 25H2 once again. Again my "Remote Desktop" failed to work. So I did a restore from the backup I took and "Remote Desktop" was working again. So the problem was 25H2 so I put it on hold until "God Knows When". I never thought I would have problems with a Windows 11 update. I would have thought that Windows would have done a BETTER job of testing before it release. When will it be fixed?

    Hello,

In the January 17, 2026 update (KB5077744), Microsoft included a fix for a Remote Desktop sign‑in issue that some users experienced after installing the January 2026 Windows security update (KB5074109). The problem affected the

authentication process in various Remote Desktop applications on Windows, including the Windows App.

    January 17, 2026—KB5077744 (OS Builds 26200.7627 and 26100.7627) Out-of-band

This fix is part of KB5077744, so installing this update or any later cumulative update should resolve the Remote Desktop sign‑in error.
However, if the issue continues to occur, please consider sending feedback to Microsoft.

Remote Desktop issues after installing Windows 11, version 25H2 are known in specific scenarios and are being addressed through updates.

For Windows 11/Windows Server builds where Remote Desktop sessions freeze or disconnect after recent updates, Microsoft documents the following:

    1. After installing the February 2025 security update KB5051987 and later updates on Windows Server 2025, Remote Desktop sessions can freeze shortly after connection, with mouse and keyboard becoming unresponsive. The resolution for this issue is planned for a future Windows update for Windows Server 2025.
    2. After installing the January 2025 preview update KB5050094 and later updates, including the March 2025 security update KB5053598, users can see RDP sessions disconnecting after about 65 seconds when using UDP-based connections from Windows 11, version 24H2 to older RDS hosts (Windows Server 2016 or earlier).
    3. For the disconnection issue, Microsoft provides a Known Issue Rollback (KIR) Group Policy for Windows 11 version 24H2 and Windows Server 2025. IT admins can download and deploy the special Group Policy (under Computer > Configuration > Administrative Templates) to temporarily disable the change causing the disconnects. This is intended for systems running updates released before March 27, 2025; installing KB5053656 (March 27, 2025) or later removes the need for the special Group Policy.
    4. For the freeze issue on Windows Server 2025, Microsoft states that the fix will be delivered in a future Windows update; no specific date is provided in the available documentation.

Because the published information only specifies that the fix will arrive in a future update and does not give a calendar date, the practical options are:

    • Keep the 25H2 update on hold on affected machines until a later cumulative update explicitly lists Remote Desktop issues as resolved for the relevant build.
    • If using an enterprise-managed or Pro/Server environment and the issue matches the documented RDP disconnection behavior, deploy the provided Known Issue Rollback Group Policy for the affected KBs until KB5053656 or later is installed.

There is no exact “when” in the documentation—only that the resolution will be included in a future Windows update. Monitoring Windows Update release notes and the Windows release health pages for 25H2/24H2 and Windows Server 2025 is required to know when the specific Remote Desktop issue affecting the environment is marked as resolved.
