I am trying to add posting permissions in Viva Engage, but the option does not exist when I go into the community settings section in which I created. Can someone help?

    Hi @Jason Puckett,

Good day and thank you for reaching out.

To better understand why the Posting permissions option is missing, please clarifying the following"

    1. Is this a regular community or the All Company community?
    2. What is your current role in Viva Engage (Community Admin, Engage (Yammer) Admin, Network Admin, or Global Admin)?
    3. Are you accessing the community settings via Viva Engage on the web, Microsoft Teams, or Outlook?
    4. Is this community Microsoft 365-connected (backed by a Microsoft 365 group)?
    5. Are you trying to restrict posting to admins only, or to specific users?
    6. Do other admins in your tenant see the Posting permissions option for this same community?
    7. Was this community created manually by you, or automatically provisioned (for example, All Company or system-created)?

These questions will help determine whether this behavior is due to a role limitation, a community-type restriction, or a tenant-level configuration. Once I have a clearer understanding of your setup, I’ll be happy to assist more accurately. Please feel free to share any additional details you believe are relevant. Screenshots are especially helpful and appreciated.

In the meantime, the most important step is to verify your current admin role. Even if you created the community, the Posting permissions setting (Open vs. Restricted) is not available to standard Community Admins.

    • A Community Admin must grant Community Admin rights to a Network Admin, and
    • Only a Network Admin / Engage Admin can enable Restricted posting under Configuration > Posting permission

If you are only assigned the Community Admin role, this option will not appear in the community settings. In this case, you may need to contact your IT support team to request a higher-level admin role.

I'm looking forward to your reply.

In Viva Engage, posting permissions are only available in specific places and with specific roles, which is why the option may not appear in community settings.

    Check the following:

    1. Confirm community admin role
      • Only a community admin can change posting permissions for that community.
      • If not already a community admin, a network admin must grant community admin status first. Without this, the Posting permissions / Restricted option will not be visible.
    2. Restricted posting in regular communities
      • In the community, select MoreSettings.
      • Under Configuration > Posting permissions, the Restricted option appears only when:
        • A network admin has been granted community admin status for that community, and
        • That user is viewing the settings.
      • When set to Restricted, only community admins can start threads; members can only reply and react.
    3. Restricted posting in All Company
      • The Posting Permissions option for All Company exists only for All Company admins.
      • In All Company, select the More options icon → Settings.
      • Under Posting Permissions, choose Restricted: Only admins can start a conversation in this community.
    4. Where restrictions apply
      • A restricted community remains restricted in the Viva Engage app in Teams, SharePoint web parts, and Outlook.
      • Restricting posts in All Company is supported with the SharePoint Conversations V2 web part only; other web parts or embed features do not support post restriction.

If the Posting Permissions / Restricted option is missing, the most common causes are:

    • The current user is not a community admin (or All Company admin for All Company), or
    • The community is being viewed through an integration or web part that does not surface that control.
