Cannot edit files in Personal Vault on mobile + Windows 7 access issue

Hi, I have two issues with OneDrive: I can no longer access OneDrive on my Windows 7 laptop through Chrome. Is Windows 7 no longer supported?

I cannot edit files stored in my Personal Vault using the OneDrive mobile app on both iPhone and iPad. The files open, but there is no edit option.

Could you please clarify if editing in Personal Vault is not supported on mobile apps, and confirm the status of Windows 7 support? Thank you

    Hi, Olena

It looks like this is a mix of platform limits and app behavior, not just one broken setting. Personal Vault is listed for Windows 10/11, Android 6+, iOS 11.3+, and the latest Edge, Chrome, or Firefox, and Microsoft also says Office files in Personal Vault can only be edited on a PC or on the web.

Here are some suggestions you can try:

On the iPhone/iPad, make sure the OneDrive app is fully up to date and the device is on a supported iOS/iPadOS version. Newer OneDrive builds need iOS/iPadOS 16+, and outdated app/device versions can cause missing features.

In the OneDrive app, go to Profile > Settings > Account and use Reset. It is also recommended that Background App Refresh stays enabled, and if needed, reinstall the app on iOS. Those are standard mobile fixes for odd OneDrive app behavior.

For the Windows 7 laptop, try signing in from a private/incognito window or a different current browser if possible. Personal Vault is meant for the latest Edge, Chrome, or Firefox, and the old OneDrive app on Windows 7 has been out of support since 2022.

Thank you for your patience in reading, I hope this information has been helpful to you.

Windows 7 itself can still browse to the OneDrive website, but the OneDrive desktop sync app on Windows 7, 8, and 8.1 is no longer supported as of January 1, 2022. If the issue is with the old OneDrive sync client on Windows 7, that app is now out of support. Files can still be accessed via the OneDrive website or from supported devices.

For Personal Vault editing on mobile: editing Office documents stored in Personal Vault is only supported on a PC or on the web. On mobile apps (including iPhone and iPad), documents in Personal Vault can be viewed, but must be moved out of Personal Vault to edit them.
