I have Microsoft Office 2024 but it links to 365 which I've loaded on my 2025 MacBook Air 13in. I have trouble with OverDrive it won't open. I'm running Tahoe 26.3.1(a)

Hi, I'm John! I will help you with this.

First, Office 2024 and Microsoft 365 are different licenses. Office 2024 should not depend on 365 once it’s properly activated.

About OverDrive not opening, that sounds like a separate app issue, not directly Office.

A few quick questions to narrow it down:

    1. What exactly happens when you open OverDrive? Any error message?
    2. Did this issue start after installing Office or after a macOS update?
    3. Are you using the OverDrive app or opening files (like ebooks) through a browser?
    4. Have you tried reinstalling the OverDrive app?

    Also, just to check:

    1. Go to Word > Account. What license does it show there? Office 2024 or Microsoft 365?

Click "Add comment" to let me know.

    Regards,

    John J.D.

On a 2025 MacBook Air (M4) running macOS Tahoe 26.3.1, Office 2024 and Microsoft 365 for Mac are supported and use the same underlying apps. The apps are delivered as a single, universal Mac package that supports both Apple silicon and Intel, and macOS dynamically loads the correct components for the device.

If OneDrive ("OverDrive") will not open on Tahoe:

    1. Confirm macOS support
      • Office 2024 and Microsoft 365 for Mac support the three most recent macOS versions. As of September 2025, macOS Tahoe (26) is supported along with Sequoia (15) and Sonoma (14).
      • New installs of Office 2024 for Mac require macOS Sonoma or later, so Tahoe is within the supported range.
    2. Make sure Office is fully updated
      • On macOS Tahoe, install the latest updates for Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote, and OneDrive to ensure compatibility.
    3. If OneDrive still will not open
      • Remove OneDrive from Applications and reinstall it as part of the Microsoft 365/Office for Mac apps, then try again.
      • If the problem persists, use the in‑app feedback/support options from another Office app:
        • In Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or OneNote: select the Feedback icon in the top corner and describe the OneDrive issue.

This configuration does not require a separate “Office 2024 only” build; the same Microsoft 365/Office apps package is used, and licensing (Microsoft 365 subscription vs. Office 2024 perpetual) is handled by the account and product key rather than by different binaries.
