Manual generation or sending of a RIO code is not possible.
To port a Skype Number to another provider, the required steps are:
- Contact the new telephone provider and request porting of the Skype Number. Porting is initiated by the new operator, not by Skype support directly.
- For Skype Numbers in France, obtain the RIO (Relevé d'identité opérateur) by calling the Voxbone/Bandwidth toll‑free number listed in the Skype FAQ: +33805080975. Provide that RIO to the new provider so they can complete the port.
- If the RIO is not received by SMS within 2 days, use the request RIO via email option.
- After requesting RIO by email, open a case with Skype customer support stating that an Email RIO for Number XXXX has been requested; once the email is received, the RIO will be provided as soon as possible.
- For Skype Numbers in other countries, contact the new provider directly to initiate porting; they will guide through any local requirements. There are no fees charged for porting the Skype Number, but any amounts already paid for the service are not refunded.
If additional help is needed (for example, if the RIO email request is failing or the number is close to expiry), contact Skype support via the Skype support site and select the appropriate issue category for Skype Numbers and subscriptions.
Note that Skype is retired as of May 2025; existing calling and Skype Number subscriptions auto‑renew only until April 3, 2025. To transfer a Skype Number, the documented path remains to contact the new carrier and, for France, obtain the RIO via Voxbone/Bandwidth as described above.
