To both move rows correctly and address the Copilot UI in Excel, use these steps.

    1. To move rows using Cut and Insert Cut Cells
    2. Select the entire row(s) to move by clicking the row number on the left.
    3. On the Home tab, in the Clipboard group, select Cut or press Ctrl+X.
    4. Right‑click the row number below where the cut row(s) should go.
    5. Select Insert Cut Cells.

This uses the standard command path for moving rows and should work even if Copilot is visible in the ribbon.

    If moving columns instead:

    1. Select the entire column(s) by clicking the column letter.
    2. On the Home tab, in the Clipboard group, select Cut or press Ctrl+X.
    3. Right‑click the column letter to the right of where the cut column(s) should go.
    4. Select Insert Cut Cells.

If the command still appears not to work, verify that:

    • The correct row or column is selected (entire row/column, not just a few cells).
    • The paste location is not outside Excel’s row/column limits (16,384 columns by 1,048,576 rows).
    1. About the Copilot element above Insert

Copilot appearing above Insert is part of the Excel UI and does not change how Cut and Insert Cut Cells work. To turn Copilot off in Excel for Microsoft 365 Family or Personal:

    • Follow the guidance in “How to turn off Copilot in Microsoft 365 Family and Personal subscriptions” referenced from the Copilot in Excel FAQ. Once Copilot is turned off at the subscription/app level, the Copilot entry in Excel should no longer be active.
