How to deploy Web API on the server and ensure it is able to process any concrete request from the client app?

How you deploy depends on the server O/S and how it’s hosted. Check with your hosting provider on what deployment options are available, or if it is on premise, check with the IT department on the deployment options. You also need to verify the server can host your webapi solution.

Note: webapi is a generic term and does not refer to any particular technology stack. If you provide the your webapi technology stack and the hosting environment, we can give more support.

It is fine to deploy the API project on the server. Any concrete example (of MAUI APP) to work interactively with that API project on the server? Client app can update JSON and share it to the server?

Yes, an ASP.NET (Core) Web API can absolutely be deployed to IIS, and the RestUrl used in your client must point to a specific API endpoint, not just the server root.

1. Deploy Web API to IIS

High‑level steps:

Publish the Web API from Visual Studio (Folder or IIS publish).

On the IIS server, install the .NET Hosting Bundle (required for ASP.NET Core).

Create an IIS site or application pointing to the published folder.

Ensure the site runs and returns responses.

After deployment, verify the API independently:

Open /swagger (if enabled), or

Test endpoints using Postman / curl\ This confirms IIS + routing are working before testing the client.

2. What RestUrl should look like:

RestUrl must be the actual API route, not just the IIS site URL.

Correct example:

https://myserver/MyApi/api/TodoItems

Incorrect:

https://myserver/

If your controller looks like this:

[Route("api/[controller]")]

public class TodoItemsController : ControllerBase

Then:

POST → https://myserver/MyApi/api/TodoItems

PUT → https://myserver/MyApi/api/TodoItems/{id}

3. Client app – your code is valid

Your client code is correct as long as RestUrl is correct and matches the API route:

else

response = await client.PutAsync(uri, content);

Key checks:

Content-Type is application/json ✅

HTTP verb matches controller action ([HttpPost], [HttpPut])

PUT usually requires an ID in the URL

4. IIS‑specific issue to check (very common)

If POST works but PUT/DELETE fails with 405 Method Not Allowed:

IIS may be blocking PUT/DELETE verbs

Disable WebDAV in IIS

Check Handler Mappings to allow those verbs
