Screen blocked apparently. Y windows defender. Gave number to call immediately 1888 453 3970

i called Could not hear the guy because beeping was so loud. I kept questioning how I could be certain it was Microsoft. He said I could google the number and his bags id. I said I would rather google customer support at which he said that was fine. He understood but best then the chat or online customer service could assist and I would not need him. I went ahead and did the creo alt del and closed chrome. Then rebooted computer. How do I check if I am ok?

It sounds like you encountered a tech support scam. Scammers often use fake error messages and phone numbers to trick users into believing their computer is infected or compromised. Here are steps you can take to check if your computer is okay:

    1. Run a Full Scan with Windows Defender: Open Windows Defender and perform a full scan to check for any malware or unwanted software. This will help identify and remove any threats.
    2. Check Installed Programs: Go to the Control Panel and review the list of installed programs. Uninstall any applications that you did not install or that look suspicious.
    3. Change Your Passwords: If you provided any personal information or passwords to the scammer, change those passwords immediately.
    4. Monitor Your Accounts: Keep an eye on your bank and online accounts for any unusual activity.
    5. Enable Windows Firewall: Ensure that your Windows Firewall is enabled to help protect your computer from unauthorized access.
    6. Stay Updated: Make sure your operating system and all software are up to date with the latest security patches.

If you continue to experience issues or suspect that your computer may still be compromised, consider resetting your device to factory settings after backing up important data.

Hi clara parada-carneiro, I completely understand how unsettling that experience must have been seeing a warning that locks your screen and demands you call a number can feel urgent and alarming.

Check for weird processes remove any apps you didn’t install run an offline Defender scan reset your browser make sure your firewall is on and clear any unknown startup tasks.

Did you enter any personal details or download anything before closing the browser or was it just the popup?

    Best regards

    Lucky
