Having problems with reactivating what I believe to be a valid Windows product key

Mid 2024 I purchased a mini-pc for home lab use with Windows 11 installed. I did the initial set up of the PC when received and activated the license. The device showed up in my devices list under my Microsoft account. I've since then been learning linux, proxmox and virtual machines. I'm almost certain that my first attempt at creating a VM, used the license key from the bios of the base hardware. But that VM was removed for continued learning. And the device removed from my Microsoft Acct. Not sure if that may have impacted the inability to reactivate the license or not. But I currently unable to activate that product key after a successful installation of Win 11.

Any suggestions?

To troubleshoot the issue with reactivating your Windows 11 product key, consider the following steps:

    1. Check if Windows is Activated: Open the Activation settings by going to Settings > Update & Security > Activation. Look for any error messages that may indicate why activation failed.
    2. Verify the Product Key: If you suspect that the product key from the BIOS was used, ensure that it is still valid. You can check if the device has a firmware-embedded activation key by running the following command in an elevated PowerShell:
         (Get-CimInstance -query 'select * from SoftwareLicensingService').OA3xOriginalProductKey

If the output is blank, the device may not have a firmware-embedded key.
    3. Device Association: Since you mentioned that the device was removed from your Microsoft account, try re-associating it. Log into your Microsoft account and check if the device is listed under your devices. If not, you may need to add it back.
    4. Reinstall Windows: If the above steps do not resolve the issue, consider reinstalling Windows 11. During the installation, you can enter the product key manually if prompted.
    5. Contact Microsoft Support: If you continue to experience issues, reaching out to Microsoft Support may provide additional assistance, especially if the product key is not being recognized as valid.

These steps should help you troubleshoot the activation issue with your Windows 11 installation.
