Hello , I got a new laptop for my daughter with Win11 Education. I set-up and log in with her Microsoft account. But I cannot see under the account the device (i.e. the laptop) being regsiter with her microsoft account (MS365 Account). I tried to register the laptop using its serial number, but it does say "we do not recognise the serial number". I am using the number dislayed in setting under "Windows specifications - serial number".

    Hello, Frederik.

Win11 Education is a corporate edition that is distributed only by corporate subscription to educational institutions. If you purchased a laptop as an individual, then you should install the OS of the "regular" edition (Home, Professional), if you have the appropriate license. And it is possible that the laptop has a JTV license linked to it (in this case, it is enough to restore the factory OS without buying a separate license). Check with the seller about the origin of the corporate OS on this laptop.

If the OS is officially provided by your daughter's educational institution, then contact the System Administrator of this educational institution. It is his responsibility to perform all the settings and solve problems with the corporate software.

It sounds like you're having trouble registering your new laptop with the Microsoft account. Here are some steps you can follow to troubleshoot the issue:

    1. Ensure the Device is Joined to Microsoft Entra ID: Make sure that the laptop is properly joined to the Microsoft Entra ID. You can check this by signing into the Microsoft Azure portal and navigating to Microsoft Entra ID > Devices to see if the device appears there. If it doesn't, you may need to join the device to the Microsoft Entra ID or a local Active Directory domain.
    2. Check the Serial Number: When entering the serial number, ensure that you are using the correct one. The serial number can usually be found in the Settings under Windows specifications. If the serial number is not recognized, double-check for any typos or formatting issues when entering it.
    3. Account Permissions: Make sure that the Microsoft account you are using has the necessary permissions to register devices. If the account is part of an organization, there may be restrictions in place.
    4. Windows Updates: Ensure that the laptop is fully updated. Sometimes, pending updates can cause issues with account registrations.
    5. Contact Support: If the issue persists, it may be helpful to contact Microsoft support for further assistance, especially if there are specific error messages you are encountering.

By following these steps, you should be able to resolve the issue with registering the laptop to the Microsoft account.
