Why do I need to reset password every time I log in?

I always use outlook in the browser (Brave), either mobile (Android) or desktop (Linux). Every single time I want to sing in in, I have to reset my password since I get the message for incorrect password and too many tries with a wrong password even though the password is correct.

This is extremely annoying and started happening in the last few weeks or months. So far, it only happened when travelling, but now it happens even at home.

I do not have any particular security configurations for location, etc. In fact, I do not have 2FA, and I dont have a backup email account for recovery, since I already have my phone number linked to my outlook account.

I need MS to solve this, I do not want to change browsers, to set 2FA, or to link a new email account to this one (I fear that 2FA will be enabled to that second account and I will have to login in both every time, I have experienced this before)

There could be several reasons why you are experiencing repeated password prompts when logging into Outlook. Here are some potential causes:

    1. Incorrect Username or Password: Ensure that you are entering the correct username and password. Sometimes, a simple typo can lead to repeated prompts.
    2. Browser Issues: Since you are using Brave, it might have settings or extensions that interfere with the login process. Try clearing your browser cache or testing the login in a different browser to see if the issue persists.
    3. Security Settings: Although you mentioned that you do not have particular security configurations, sometimes security features on your network or device can trigger repeated login prompts. This can include firewalls or VPNs that might be affecting your connection to Microsoft services.
    4. Account Lockout: If there are too many failed login attempts, your account may temporarily lock you out. This could happen if your device is trying to log in with an incorrect password multiple times.
    5. Two-Factor Authentication (2FA): While you mentioned not having 2FA enabled, if it is enabled on your account, it could cause additional prompts for verification.
    6. Network Issues: Since you mentioned this issue started while traveling, it could be related to network conditions or restrictions in certain locations that affect how you connect to Microsoft services.

If the problem continues, consider reaching out to Microsoft support for further assistance, as they can provide more specific troubleshooting based on your account and usage patterns.

Hey there! Nice to meet you!

There is a possibility that a hacker using bots repeatedly trying to sign in to your account, which triggered the system to detect multiple failed sign-in attempts or an unusual login pattern and resulted in the account being temporarily blocked.

If the account is still blocked, please perform these steps to resolve an account block:

    1. Perform a password reset using an InPrivate window or Incognito. Also, try using different devices and network services.
    2. Wait 24 hours to perform a password reset, but please make sure not to reset the password within that timeframe, as this may reset the lock cooldown.
    3. If it doesn't work after 24 hours, try waiting exactly 48 hours before resetting the password

Once you have regained access to your account, ensure that your verification methods are updated on account.microsoft.com > Security > Manage how I sign in

Lastly, I recommend following the guide from this thread to prevent unauthorized login fatigue: https://dori-uw-1.kuma-moon.com/answers/questions/4049625/someone-is-repeatedly-trying-to-access-or-hack-my?forum=windows-all&referrer=answers
