upgrade to allow custom domains

Hi,

I have an Azure subscription which contains an App Service website and an SQL Database. I want to be able to use my own custom domain that I have purchased for my website, but am currently unable to as I am on the free F1 App Service plan. My SQL Database is on the Standard tier. Support have informed me that I need to upgrade the resource/service tier of the App Service and SQL Database in order to do this.

I have attempted to do this by scaling up the App Service plan to B1 Basic but this gives me the following error :

Scale operation failed: Operation cannot be completed without additional quota. Additional details - Location: Current Limit (Basic VMs): 0 Current Usage: 0 Amount required for this deployment (Basic VMs): 0 (Minimum) New Limit that you should request to enable this deployment: 0. Note that if you experience multiple scaling operations failing (in addition to this one) and need to accommodate the aggregate quota requirements of these operations, you will need to request a higher quota limit than the one currently displayed.

Can anybody advise me on how to do this?

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Mike

To upgrade your Azure App Service plan from the Free (F1) tier to a paid tier that allows for custom domains, follow these steps:

    1. Log in to the Azure portal: Go to Azure portal and sign in with your account.
    2. Navigate to your App Service: In the search bar at the top, enter the name of your App Service and select it from the results.
    3. Scale up your App Service:
      • In your App Service management page, look for the Settings section in the sidebar menu and select Scale up (App Service plan).
      • You will see different pricing tiers. Choose a tier that supports custom domains (e.g., Basic or higher).
      • Select the checkbox for the desired tier (like Basic B1) and click Select. Wait for the app update to complete.
    4. Upgrade your SQL Database: If your SQL Database is also on the Free tier, you will need to upgrade it similarly. Navigate to your SQL Database in the Azure portal, and look for the option to scale or change the pricing tier.
    5. Confirm the changes: After upgrading, ensure that both your App Service and SQL Database are on the appropriate tiers that support custom domains.

Once you have completed these steps, you will be able to configure your custom domain for your Azure App Service.

    Hi Mike,

Please carefully follow my instructions below to create a new Service and subscription limits (quotas) request quota increase to allow you to scale up your App Service plan to B1 SKU in the region. Once you have successfully scaled up to B1 you will be able to configure custom domain.

    1. Navigate to this link to start the process:

    https://portal.azure.com/#create/Microsoft.Support

    2. Enter quota in the box and click Go

    3. Select Others / Service and subscription limits (quotas) and click Next

    User's image

    4. Click Create a support request button, as shown

    User's image

    5. Select Issue type: Service and subscription limits (quotas), Subscription, Quota type: Function or Web App (Windows and Linux), click Next

    User's image

    6. Now you should be on Additional details tab. Click Enter details

    User's image

    7. Select Region, Deployment type, select App Service plan SKU, New limit of worker VMs, and then click Save and continue

    User'2 image

    8. Finish filling out Additional details tab, click Next, review and click Create. You should receive an automated email within a few minutes.

Please click Accept Answer and upvote if the above was helpful.

    Thanks.

    Hii Mike,

It sounds like you are trying to add a custom domain to your Azure App Service, but you're running into some issues due to your current app service tier limitations. Since you're on the free F1 plan, you're correct that you'll need to upgrade the App Service plan to at least the Basic (B1) tier to use a custom domain.

The error message you’re encountering about additional quota indicates that your Azure subscription has a limit on the number of Basic VMs you can deploy. Here's what you could do to resolve this:

    1. Check Your Quota: Go to the Azure portal and navigate to Help + support > Quota to see the current limits for your subscription. You may need to request an increase in your quota for Basic VMs.
    2. Request Quota Increase:
      • In the Azure portal, select "Help + support" and create a new support request.
      • Choose the option for "Quota" and follow the steps to request an increase in the quota for Basic VMs.
    3. Upgrade your App Service: Once you've successfully increased your quota, attempt to scale up your App Service again to the B1 Basic tier.
    4. DNS Configuration: After upgrading, ensure that your DNS settings are configured correctly. You'll typically need:
      • A "CNAME record" pointing from your custom domain to <your-app>.azurewebsites.net.
      • A "TXT record" for domain verification.
    5. Wait for DNS Propagation: Keep in mind that DNS changes can take some time to propagate.

If you're still having trouble after these steps, I would recommend checking on the Azure documentation regarding custom domains for App Services and possibly reaching out to support for direct assistance.
