There's a calendar subscription link like webcal://[Moderator note: personal info removed]

/calendar.ics which works ok in the old Outlook desktop app and other mail/calendar apps like Mozilla Thunderbird or Apple iCloud. Here I mean that it must be correctly processed by the calendar app when clicking the link in the browser:

The new Outlook app removes 'webcal' scheme from the URIt works ok when I manually paste the URI into the subscription field though. But it's not as convenient as clicking the link in the browser. [Moderator note: personal info removed]

If I modify the link to include the full URL after the mailto scheme it seems working ok for the new Outlook: [Moderator note: personal info removed]

But such link isn't appropriate for other calendar apps. Is there a way to have a versatile link working correctly for the modern Outlook and other popular calendar apps?

    Hello @Vadym Miakishev

    Welcome to Q&A forum!

Previously, you could just click and subscribe. Now you have to copy and paste, which feels like a step backward

To clarify this issue for you, I want to provide it for your information:

    • Older calendar apps (classic Outlook, Apple Calendar, Thunderbird) understand links starting with webcal:// and automatically open the subscription dialog when you click them.
    • The new Outlook (based on the modern web interface) does not fully support the webcal:// protocol. When you click such a link in your browser, it doesn’t know which app to use.
    • If you paste the link manually into Outlook’s “Subscribe from web” field, it works because Outlook can read the .ics file internally.

I appreciate that you have raised it in our community and I believe many other users also have the same concern as you.
