In Planner and Project Plan 3, I need to sort activities in the Timeline barchart so they display in Start Date then End Date order.

How can I do this?

In Microsoft Planner, sorting activities in the Timeline view by Start Date and End Date is not directly supported as a built-in feature. However, you can manage tasks and their dates effectively by ensuring that each task has the appropriate Start Date and Due Date set.

To achieve a similar effect, you can:

    1. Set Start Dates: Make sure each task has a defined Start Date. This will help in visually organizing tasks in the Timeline view.
    2. Use Due Dates: Set Due Dates for tasks as well. Although Planner does not allow sorting directly by these dates, having them set will help you manage and visualize timelines better.
    3. Check Plan Views: If you have access to advanced capabilities with a Project Plan 3 license, you may have additional features that could assist in managing and visualizing tasks more effectively.

For more advanced project management features, consider using Microsoft Project, which offers more robust sorting and filtering options for tasks based on various criteria, including Start Date and End Date.

    Hi Christopher Morley

    Welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum

Thank you for reaching out about printing Timeline reports and the challenges with sorting tasks and text wrapping in your project.

To help me provide the most effective advice, could you please clarify a few details?

    1. Are you currently working in Project for the web (opening your project in a browser at project.microsoft.com or make.powerapps.com), or are you using the Microsoft Project desktop application (the installed app on your computer)?
    2. When you refer to the "Timeline report," which of the following are you trying to print/export?
    • The simple horizontal Timeline bar that appears at the top of the Gantt Chart view?
    • A report from the Reports menu?
    • Or the Timeline exported to PDF via the Export option?
    1. Regarding the task description that gets truncated, does the truncation happen on the bars in the chart, in the table, or in the printed/exported version? Could you please share a screenshot of the Timeline view showing where the text is being truncated/cut off?

The initial response may not fully address your needs, but it will help me better understand your situation and give the advice. Thank you for your patience while we work through it
