- Process or Service Failures: Critical processes like DWM.exe or Winlogon.exe crashing can cause login hangs or black screens. Review Event Viewer logs for clues.
- Resource Exhaustion: High CPU, memory, or disk usage can lead to server hangs. Use Task Manager, Resource Monitor, and Performance Monitor to check for bottlenecks.
- Licensing or Configuration Issues: Incorrect RDS licensing or misconfigured session host settings can cause instability. Use the Licensing Diagnoser to verify setup.
- Third-Party Software Conflicts: Antivirus, session managers, or other third-party tools may interfere with RDS operations. Perform a clean boot to rule out these factors.
2. Additional Recommendations
- Apply Latest Updates: Some RDSH stability issues are fixed in cumulative updates.
- Monitor Patterns: Note if hangs occur during peak load or after specific activities.
- Check for Known Issues:
- There’s a documented hang scenario on Windows Server 2019 caused by NisSrv.exe (Microsoft Defender Network Protection). If Defender is running, consider updating or temporarily disabling Network Protection for testing.

3. Memory dump file
Please confirm if a complete memory dump is configured on the affected RDSH servers. If yes, could you upload the dump file to OneDrive and share the link with us? This will allow us to analyze the NMI dump and identify the root cause.
The dump file is usually located at C:\Windows\Memory.dmp. If it’s very large, you can compress it before uploading.
