I need to change our business' Global support admin, I have tried to contact Microsoft several different ways and one time I did get some email replies, then they canceled my support request before it was resolved. I have been at this for weeks now and am quite frustrated.

To change the Global Admin for your Microsoft 365 account, you will need to contact Microsoft support. Here are the steps you can follow to reach out for assistance:

    1. Identify the Global Admin: Ensure you have access to the account of the current Global Admin, as they will need to initiate the change.
    2. Contact Support: You can find the support phone number for your region by visiting the Microsoft 365 admin support page. If you are unable to reach them through phone, you can also try the online support options available in the admin center.
    3. Provide Necessary Information: When you contact support, be prepared to provide details about your organization and the current Global Admin account. This may include account verification information.
    4. Follow Up: If your support request is canceled or unresolved, consider following up directly with the support team to ensure your request is addressed.

If you are part of the company's tenant and cannot find help, you can ask a colleague who has access to the tenant to contact Microsoft support on your behalf.

    Dear @Jaycee Gauman,

    Welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum.

Thank you for reaching out and sharing your experience with us. I completely understand how important it is to have the correct Global Administrator set up for your organization, and I’m sorry to hear about the challenges you’ve faced so far.

To assist you more effectively, could you please confirm whether there is another Global Administrator in your organization who still has access to the Microsoft 365 Admin Center? This information will help determine the best next steps for resolving your access issue.

    • If there is another Global Administrator in your organization, they can sign in to the Microsoft 365 Admin Center to either create a new user with Global Administrator privileges or reset the password for the lost account. You can share the password reset steps provided in the article: Reset passwords - Microsoft 365 admin | Microsoft Learn   User's image
    • If the lost account was the only Global Administrator on the tenant, please follow the steps outlined below to regain access.

Option 1: Contact Microsoft Data Protection Support by Phone (Primary Method)

As you can't access the Admin Portal, you can try reaching out to our Global Customer Service phone to raise a request to grant you access to the tenant here: Customer service phone numbers - Microsoft Support. During the call, request to speak to an agent, and share with them every detail related to your query and also mention that the organization has only one Global Administrator and you no longer have access to that account. This should allow you to contact the appropriate team so you can solve this incident as soon as possible.

Here are some tips and an example of a prompt to help you navigate the IVR more effectively:

In some countries, it is an automated conversation like:

    • IVR: What kind of problem are you concerned about?
    • You: Authenticator.
    • IVR: What kind of product do you use?
    • You: Office 365 for business.
    • IVR confirmation: education or company account?
    • You: For companies
    • IVR: Are you an administrator?
    • You: Yes.
    • IVR: Do you have another administrator in your organization?
    • You: No.
    • IVR: Do you need a... Service request?
    • You: Yes. I need to create a ticket. Please send me direct to the Data Protection Team.

Option 2: Create a Temporary Account (Trial Tenant) to Submit a Support Ticket (Alternative Method)

If you still cannot reach to a live agent, there is still a workaround, you might consider registering for a new tenant by signing up for a trial subscription via this link Microsoft 365 Business Plans and Pricing | Microsoft 365. This would allow you to create a new tenant following the prompts provided. Once set up, you can access the admin console of the new tenant and submit a support ticket requesting to speak with the Data Protection team on behalf of your previous tenant.

Please note that forum moderators do not have access to user account settings and cannot assist with logging in, resetting passwords, or changing access rights. While we do not have access to internal systems or administrative tools required to resolve account-specific or backend-related issues, but we’ll continue doing our best to support you within the scope of our responsibilities.

I hope this helps you regain access to your tenant quickly. I'm glad to assist and truly hope the information provided has been useful. Please feel free to reach out anytime if you need further assistance.
