New Outlook refuses to set the right address for mail servers.

The new Outlook is a horrible monster.

I am trying to add an email account but outlook consistently try to use domains that are wrong even though I disable the Use recommended settings it still reverts to enable that and change the IMAP and SMTP servers no matter how I try to get it to use the proper ones.

Many of my email accounts are working just fine and I have no problems there but this one account is causing this major headache. How do I stop Outlook from trying to use something that it most possibly has stored somewhere which of course no one knows where since Microsoft stores things in a million and one places and is just a nightmare to try to troubleshoot.

Anyone else has had that problem? If so how do you solve it?

    Hi Chris,

Thank you for sharing your question. It seems like the app really wants to find the settings automatically and sync everything to the Microsoft cloud, so it ignores what you put in.

Basically, Outlook seems to be holding onto old settings for your account. Once it syncs to the cloud, you can't change the IMAP and SMTP stuff.

    Here's what you can try

Close Outlook and delete the account that's giving you trouble.

Wipe out the cached account info by resetting the New Outlook app. Go to Windows Settings, then Apps, find New Outlook, hit Advanced options, and then Reset. This will not delete server emails, but it will delete the stored settings.

Open Outlook again and add the account again. If it still tries to automatically find the settings, switch back to the old Outlook for a bit. Set up your account there with the right server settings, then switch back to the new version if you want. Some people say this works.

If the new Outlook app still isn't letting you fix the settings, you might want to just go back to the classic Outlook or try a different email program that lets you control the IMAP/SMTP settings. The new Outlook doesn't really let you set up the server manually for non-Microsoft email, and it overrides any changes you try to make after it's saved its own settings.

    I hope this helps.

    Best Regards,

    Noel
