We purchase licensing for SE Exchange and it is connected to my work email account <Mod remove PII>

That account appears to be listed as personnel not business and I am unable to get the licensing information for SE. Is it possible to have my account changed to business?

    Hi @Jeff Kluver

Thank you for posting your question in the Q&A Forum.

I understand that your SE Exchange license is currently associated with your personal Microsoft account, which is preventing you from accessing the licensing information needed for your organization.

It might be helpful to clarify that Microsoft personal accounts (Outlook.com, Hotmail) and work or school accounts (Microsoft 365 business accounts) operate on completely separate systems. Because of this, it is not possible to convert a personal Microsoft account into a business account.

SE Exchange and other Microsoft 365 business licenses must be assigned to a Work or School account that exists inside your organization’s Microsoft 365/Entra ID tenant. If your work email address is currently recognized as a personal Microsoft account, it means it was registered as a personal profile earlier, and business licenses won’t be accessible through that account.

To resolve this, please check with your organization’s Microsoft 365 administrator. They may need to:

    1. Confirm Assignment: Please check with your IT administrator to confirm exactly which account or user the SE Exchange licenses have been officially assigned to.

    2. Admin Actions Required: If your organization intends for you to use your work email as a proper business (Entra ID) account, your IT admin may need to:

    • Create or enable your dedicated Work/School account within the organization’s Microsoft 365 environment.
    • Reassign the SE Exchange license to this business account.
    • If the personal Microsoft account using that email is causing a conflict, rename or remove the conflicting personal account alias first to avoid license recognition issues.

If you have existing emails, contacts, or files in your personal account that need to be retained, Microsoft provides detailed guidance on moving them to your new business account. You may find the following resources helpful:

Following these steps should help you transition to a proper business account and regain full access to your SE Exchange licensing.

Please note that moderators or community members cannot change account types or reassign licenses directly; this must be handled by your organization's IT administrator or the vendor who provided the SE Exchange license.

I hope this guidance helps you transition smoothly to a proper business account and regain full access to your SE Exchange licensing. If you have any questions or need further clarification, please feel free to reach out.
