Due to problems with my mobile I had to go to factory setting and lost contact to my Microsoft account, I had to start afresh and made a new account, this was a mistake. I still had access to my original Microsoft account on my tablet and laptop. so in effect I had two Microsoft accounts and didn't realise I was paying for two. Now I want to remove the second account but can't because it has become the primary alias for both accounts. I have stopped the recurring payment for the second account that was created and which I want to remove, how do I progress in this action. I have limited time because the renewal for the second account is due 16th December. I don't want to loose all my files and pictures which I have access in both accounts. I want to use the orginal account only. Please help me

To resolve the issue with your combined Microsoft accounts, you can follow these steps:

    1. Sign in to Your Accounts: First, sign in to both Microsoft accounts (the original and the new one) on a device where you have access.
    2. Check Account Settings: Go to the account settings for both accounts to see which one is set as the primary alias. You can do this by navigating to the "Your info" section on the Microsoft account website.
    3. Change Primary Alias: If the new account has become the primary alias for both accounts, you will need to change the primary alias back to your original account. This can usually be done in the "Account aliases" section where you can manage your email addresses associated with the account.
    4. Remove the Second Account: Once you have changed the primary alias back to your original account, you should be able to remove the second account. Look for an option to remove or delete the account in the account settings.
    5. Backup Your Data: Before making any changes, ensure that you back up all important files and pictures from both accounts to avoid losing any data.
    6. Contact Support if Needed: If you encounter issues during this process, consider reaching out to Microsoft Support for assistance, especially since you have a deadline approaching with the renewal on December 16th.

By following these steps, you should be able to consolidate your accounts and retain access to your files without losing any data.

Hi Bob Anne Taylor, I can imagine how stressful this must feel having two accounts tangled together a renewal deadline looming and the fear of losing your files and photos.

Before December 16, make sure the second accounts recurring billing is turned off then set a new primary alias on your original account and disable sign in for the old email give the second account its own unique alias move all your files from the second accounts OneDrive to the original account secure your original account with two-step verification and updated recovery info and only remove extra aliases after confirming everything is transferred.

Which exact email addresses domains included are set as the current primary aliases on each account and roughly how much data GB is in the second accounts OneDrive that you still need to move?

    Best regards

I tried that but it was only a straw to grasp, it doesn't resolve the problem, I have contacted Microsoft help but they referred me to accounts and they also couldn't overcome the problem that the two accounts and are interlinked. Now I have been referred to OneDrive. Trying to change the primary alias associated with the accounts has been fruitless as the primary alias is locked. If I enter another email address it tells me it is already associated with accounts.
