Hi, we have successfully created two Organization Asset Libraries using the following instructions: https://dori-uw-1.kuma-moon.com/en-us/sharepoint/organization-assets-library

We created the ImageDocumentLibrary asset with the following command:

Add-SPOOrgAssetsLibrary -LibraryUrl <URL> -OrgAssetType ImageDocumentLibrary -ThumbnailUrl <URL>

Got confirmation That the Document library added successfully. After about 24 hours, I went into SharePoint and tried to add an image to a page, and it worked perfectly. My process was that I added an Image webpart, and in the popup window I saw Your Organization. I clicked on the Thumbnail and was able to insert one of my images.

But the images are not showing up in Word or Excel on desktop and online. Based on what I have read, I should be able to inset an image asset as follows:

For the Desktop version of Word:

  1. Open Word and create a new document.
  2. Go to the Insert tab on the ribbon.
  3. Click on Pictures.
  4. In the drop-down menu, select Online Pictures.
  5. In the dialog box that opens, you should see a category for Your Organization.
  6. Click on the thumbnail
  7. Select an image and insert

For the Desktop version of PowerPoint:

  1. Open PowerPoint and create a new presentation.
  2. Go to the Insert tab on the ribbon.
  3. Click on Pictures.
  4. In the drop-down menu, select Online Pictures.
  5. In the dialog box that opens, you should see a category for Your Organization.
  6. Click on the thumbnail
  7. Select an image and insert

The Your Organization option is not there. It has been more than a two week since the asset library was successfully added.

What do I do to get organization asset library images to be available in desktop apps? The Office templates do however show up as we've created two different libraries, one is an ImageDocumentLibrary and the other an OfficeTemplateLibrary. All templates inside of the OfficeTemplateLibrary are accessible in the dekstop apps of Office365 like PowerPoint and Word, but all of the images in ImageDocumentLibrary are not, except for Sharepoint Online. There it shows 'Your Organization'.

    Hi MKI | Thomas Bakker

Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A forum

After reviewing your information and conducting some research, my initial assessment of this issue is that the cause may stem from feature gap in Microsoft 365 rather than a configuration or propagation problem.

Microsoft SharePoint allows administrators to create Organization Asset Libraries of two types as stated in Create an organization assets library:

    1. ImageDocumentLibrary – for storing images such as logos and photos.
    2. OfficeTemplateLibrary – for storing Office templates (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

As far as I know, while OfficeTemplateLibrary is fully integrated with Office desktop applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), enabling users to access templates directly from the “Your Organization” tab, the ImageDocumentLibrary is only supported in SharePoint Online. Specifically, images from this library appear in the SharePoint modern file picker when adding web parts to pages, but they do not appear in the “Online Pictures → Your Organization” option in Office desktop clients.

Therefore, Office desktop apps currently do not have built-in integration to fetch images from ImageDocumentLibrary and the “Your Organization” option for images is implemented only in SharePoint Online’s modern file picker.

So, since direct integration is not supported today, you can try some practical alternatives:

    1. Sync the Image Library via OneDrive

Use the OneDrive sync client to sync the SharePoint ImageDocumentLibrary to users’ local machines.

    • In Office desktop apps, insert images via Insert → Pictures → This Device from the synced folder.

    2. Publish Images to a CDN or Company Portal

Enable SharePoint CDN or use Azure Blob Storage to host branding images.

    • Provide a centralized URL for employees to access images.

    3. Develop a Custom Office Add-in

    • Build an Office Add-in using Office.js and Microsoft Graph to fetch images from SharePoint.
    • Integrate a branded image picker directly into Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Hope my answer will help you, for any further concern, kindly let me know in the comment section.

Thank you for the quick response. This kinda solves the problem, except for the fact that there's no real use for an image assets library if you can't really use it outside of SharePoint. If I create a link in my OneDrive, it takes away the pro's of the image assets library. There should be a function that can retrieve items directly from the sharepoint library in the desktop apps. Sadly, now I'll have to develop a custom office add-in and I'm not that experienced, but I'm sure I'll manage. Thanks and have a great day!
