I have a Microsoft List that is based in my personal account but is shared with people across my organization. I had no issues with it until I recently shared it with one person, which gave me the following error message:

One or more field types are not installed properly. Go to the list settings page to delete these fields.

However, the settings page is inaccessible. Unfortunately, I do not have version history available. Is it possible to recover this list, or will I have to recreate it?

    Hello Carina Badua

Please note that our forum is a public platform, and we will modify your question to hide your personal information in the description. Kindly ensure that you hide any personal or organizational information the next time you post an error or other details to protect personal data.

    Welcome to Microsoft Q&A Forum.

The error that you are experiencing indicates that one or more columns in the underlying SharePoint list are in an invalid state. Typical causes include lookup columns whose source list has been removed, or custom field types/solutions that are no longer installed in the environment. When the list is rendered, SharePoint encounters these invalid fields and raises the message: "One or more field types are not installed properly. Go to the list settings page to delete these fields".

If you or a SharePoint administrator, can still access the list's classis SharePoint view, please kindly try the following steps:

    1. Navigate to the SharePoint site that hosts the list, open the list, then select Settings > List settings.
    2. Review the Columns section for the problematic fields, in particular:
      • Lookup columns where the "Get information from" source is blank or references a deleted list.
      • Columns that were recently added, removed or deployed via custom solutions or apps.
    3. Remove of temporarily delete any suspicious columns and then retest access to the list: If the list interface is degraded and the List settings cannot be opened, tenant or site collection administrator assistance will be required:
      • Open the list directly in classic SharePoint, if available, to reach List settings.
      • Use SharePoint administrator tools/ PowerShell inspect the list schema, identify the invalid field definition and remove or correct it.

I hope my answer helps you with your question. Please feel free to let me know if you need any further assistance.

Thank you for your time and hope you have a great day.
