    Dear @Dorothy Nelson,

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum.

We apologize for any inconvenience you may encounter when using our services/ products. Based on your description, kindly try these following steps:

    System file repair

    • Navigate to Command Prompt (Run as Administrator) > type:
    sfc /scannow
    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

    • Reboot when complete.

Regaining administrator on a personal Windows PC

    • Check your account type: Settings > Accounts > Your info. If it says Standard, you lost admin rights.
    • Enable the built‑in Administrator (temporary):
      • Hold Shift while clicking Restart > Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Command Prompt > type:
            net user administrator /active:yes
            net user administrator <StrongPasswordHere>

      • Restart, sign in as Administrator.
    • Create a new admin user (recommended):
      • Settings > Accounts > Family & other users > Add account > create a new local account > set Account type to Administrator.
    • Disable the built‑in Administrator again (for safety):
        net user administrator /active:no

    Hi Dorothy,

Please open a Command Prompt window and run the following commands:

    net user %username%

    net localgroup administrators

Post the output or screenshot here.

(The output tells you whether your account has admin privileges or not.)
