Hi! I wanted to buy a little game for about 4$ CAD with a prepaid mastercard I'd like to spend but I can't use it in the Microsoft Store and I don't understand why? My card works everywhere else. I do not have any credit card under my name right now and I sometimes buy prepaid cards to buy stuff online, is there a reason you don't accept this type of payment ? Thanks in advance for your answer and have a good day :)

Prepaid cards, including prepaid MasterCard, are not accepted as valid payment methods in the Microsoft Store. This is a common restriction across various platforms, as they typically require a standard credit or debit card for transactions. If you are looking to make purchases in the Microsoft Store, you will need to use a credit card or debit card that is not prepaid.

If you have further questions or need assistance, you may want to consider contacting Microsoft support for more specific guidance regarding payment options.

    Hello Wimzy,

Welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum. It's my pleasure to help you today.

I understand that you are having trouble buying a game with your prepaid card. Before we proceed, may I confirm that you are using a prepaid card and not a debit card. Am I correct? Also, may I know what it says when you try to register the card?

There are many reasons for a prepaid card is not accepted for online transactions. For Microsoft, there will be a step of Billing Address verification, most prepaid card won't have one, so it cannot be verified. There are other reasons for that, including the inability to handle verification holds, or the lack of linked bank account made it complicated to handle refunds. I hope this clarifies.
