Can't add custom domain to EntraID

Let me start with THIS IS NOT AN AZURE AUTOMATION QUESTION... although it may have something to do with Azure's automation...

I am attempting to verify the custom domain corporateanarchist.com in my Entra ID tenant, but verification is not completing even though the required TXT record is present and resolvable publicly.

Summary of the Issue

The domain corporateanarchist.com is added to my Entra tenant but remains in an Unverified state. Azure Portal continues to report that the TXT record cannot be found, even though the correct record is visible from multiple DNS resolvers.

Verification Steps Already Completed

  • Confirmed that the TXT record resolves correctly from multiple external DNS resolvers:
  • Google (8.8.8.8)
    • Cloudflare (1.1.1.1)
    • Quad9 (9.9.9.9)
    Verified using dig TXT corporateanarchist.com, which returns:

  Re-added the TXT record to ensure it matches exactly what Entra expects.

I would like support to:

Confirm whether Azure’s internal DNS resolvers are correctly receiving the TXT record for corporateanarchist.com.

Verify whether domain verification is being blocked due to stale cached DNS data, backend propagation issues, or a stuck verification job.

Clear or refresh the verification attempt if necessary.

Additional Notes

There are multiple TXT records at the domain root, including a GoDaddy-generated ID string. The required Microsoft TXT record is present alongside it.

No MX or other DNS changes are being made; only the TXT record is in play.

    Hello Ray Crawford,

    Based on your description, it appears that you are unable to verify your custom domain in your Entra ID tenant, even after correctly adding the TXT records.

    This issue often occurs when the domain has already been verified in another Entra directory, as explained in the following document:

    To resolve this, make sure to delete the custom domain in another directory where it's already linked. Refer this Delete custom domain - Microsoft. Once done, you can now add this custom domain to new directory without any issue.
