Thanks for sharing the details, Bart! Try to disable Edge’s server-side “NTP Remote Config” by removing the Feature Engagement DB

    Steps

    1. Close ALL Edge windows

Fully exit Edge — not just closing tabs. (You can check via Task Manager → Processes → Microsoft Edge → End Task.)

    1. Go to Edge’s profile directory

Copy and paste into File Explorer:
    %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\Edge\User Data\Default

    1. Delete these files if they exist (only delete the specific files mentioned)
    • Look specifically for:
    • Feature Engagement

    Feature Engagement Tracker

    Feature Engagement DB

    granit.db

Delete ALL of the above (Edge will regenerate them cleanly). These files store remote “experiment” toggles from Microsoft’s servers, and when corrupted, they force MSN feed to turn itself back ON after a few new tabs.

    1. Restart Edge

    Now go back to:

New Tab Page → Settings → Turn OFF “Show Content” and everything else.

See if this helps. If you need further assistance just let me know.

    Best regards,

    Kimberly

Ah, that explains why the fix didn’t work, your Edge profile is using a different mechanism to push the MSN feed back on. If the “Feature Engagement” DB isn’t present, Edge is likely controlled by another hidden system.

Delete the “Variations Seeds” that override New Tab Page settings

Removing the seeds forces Edge to fetch a clean, default configuration that does NOT override your toggles.

Step 1 - Close Edge completely

Use Task Manager → End all Edge processes.

Step 2 - Go to this folder:

    Copy/paste in File Explorer:

    %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\Edge\User Data

Step 3 - Delete these files (THESE are safe and auto-regenerated):

    Local State

    Variations

    Variations.crx

    VariationsSeed

    VariationsSeed.tmp

You might see only some of them, delete whatever exists.

    Step 4 - Reopen Edge

Then turn MSN feed OFF again in the New Tab settings.
