How can I join my Microsoft365 Family account with my Windows 11 laptop with a different user-ID

I have a Windows 11 PC registered under my primary user-ID and a Microsoft 365 Family account registered under my old (secondary) user-ID. How can I make my Windows 11 PC 'adopt' my Microsoft 365 subscription that was registered under my old user-ID?

Or, alternatively, is there a way to update my Microsoft 365 subscription from my old (secondary) user-ID to my primary user-ID?

I appreciate your guidance!

Best regards, Peter

To join your Microsoft 365 Family account with your Windows 11 laptop using a different user ID, you can follow these steps:

    1. Sign in with the Secondary User ID: On your Windows 11 PC, you need to sign in with the user ID that is linked to your Microsoft 365 Family account. You can do this by going to Settings > Accounts > Your info and selecting Sign in with a Microsoft account instead.
    2. Add the Microsoft 365 Subscription: Once signed in with the secondary user ID, you should have access to the Microsoft 365 subscription benefits associated with that account. This includes access to applications like Word, Excel, and other services.
    3. Switch Back to Primary User ID: If you want to continue using your primary user ID for your Windows 11 PC, you can switch back after accessing the Microsoft 365 services. However, you will need to repeat the sign-in process to access Microsoft 365 services each time you switch accounts.

Alternatively, if you want to update your Microsoft 365 subscription from your old user ID to your primary user ID, you would typically need to cancel the subscription under the old account and then purchase a new subscription under the primary user ID. This process ensures that your subscription is linked to the desired account.

Please note that transferring subscriptions directly between accounts is not generally supported, so managing subscriptions through the respective accounts is necessary.

    Hello !

You don't even need to change your Windows user account. Just sign in to your Microsoft account on https://account.microsoft.com/services and click on the "Install" button to download the Office installer. Launch the executable file, follow the steps, and launch one of the Office apps.
You'll be prompted to sign into your Microsoft account to activate the apps : use your old Microsoft account (user-ID).
You should be good to go !
