The charger for my Surface doesn’t charge my surface. My wife also has a surface and her charger doesn’t work on my computer either. Her charger works for her computer but not mine so this looks like a problem with my computer.

It sounds like you're experiencing an issue with your Surface laptop not charging. Since your charger and your wife's charger both work on her device but not on yours, the problem likely lies with your Surface laptop itself. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can take:

    1. Check the Power Supply: Ensure that the power supply is functioning correctly. Look for any visible damage to the charger or the charging port on your Surface.
    2. Inspect the Charging Port: Make sure there is no debris or damage in the charging port of your Surface laptop that could prevent a proper connection.
    3. Try a Different Outlet: Sometimes the issue can be with the power outlet. Try plugging the charger into a different outlet.
    4. Perform a Hard Reset: Hold down the power button for about 10 seconds, then release it. Wait a few seconds and then try turning it back on.
    5. Check for Firmware Updates: If the device powers on, check for any firmware updates that might address charging issues.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, you may need to consider contacting support for further assistance or exploring repair options.

    Hi John and Carol Ross,

Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A forum. I understand how frustrating it can be when your Surface Laptop won’t charge, especially after trying multiple chargers.

Please follow these steps to troubleshoot the issue further:

Step 1: Install drivers and firmware update:

If your Surface still has enough battery to power on, download the correct .msi file for your model from Microsoft’s official page: Download drivers and firmware for Surface.

Step 2: Repair install of Windows:

If the update doesn’t resolve the issue, perform a repair install using the latest Windows installation media. This refreshes system components while keeping your files and apps intact.

*Disclaimer: Let’s try performing an in-place install or in-place upgrade which will refresh your Windows files and operating system without removing files or applications. That being said, we always recommend that if you have important data, you should back it up before making large system changes. If you want to back up your data first, please do so. Once you are done backing up, you can follow the steps in the following guides: How to run In-place upgrade in Windows 11 - Microsoft Q&A

If your Surface cannot power on or has no battery left, please proceed directly to a service request for repair or replacement.

Please let me know if you need help with any of these steps. I'm here to assist.
