Unexpected Azure Charge on New Account – Need Help Removing Card & Clearing Balance

Hi everyone,

I recently created a new Microsoft Azure account and added my debit/credit card for verification. I haven’t intentionally used any paid Azure services or deployed anything manually. But now my account is showing an unexpected charge of around ₹1375, and it says the amount will be auto-debited from my card.

When I tried to remove my card, Azure wouldn’t allow it because there is a pending balance. I checked my resources and deleted what I could, but I’m still confused about why the charge appeared and how to stop it.

Can someone guide me on:

  • How to clear or dispute this unexpected charge
  • Whether Azure can waive it for new users
  • How to safely remove my card to prevent auto-debit

Any help or guidance would be really appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

    Hello Fidha Fathima,

Thanks for posting your question in Microsoft Q&A forum

It sounds like you're facing some unexpected charges on your new Azure account, and it's understandably confusing. Let's break down your concerns and see how we can help you.

    1. Clearing or Disputing the Charge: If you've tried deleting resources and you're still seeing that charge, it's worth reviewing any services that might have been inadvertently activated or used. It's possible that certain services were utilized that are not included in the free tier. To dispute the charge or get more clarification on it, you might want to open a support request through the Azure portal.

For any billing-related queries, please create a support request. MS team will contact you via email or phone to assist you. The steps are listed below.

    1. Click the below click for Help + Support -> Create a Support Request

    1. Can Azure Waive Charges for New Users: Generally, Azure does have policies for new users, especially concerning credits and free usage. If you haven't exceeded the limits of free services or if you suspect there was a mistake, I recommend reaching out to Azure support directly for clarification about potential waivers or refunds.
    2. Removing Your Card Safely: To remove your card from your account, you’ll first need to clear any pending balance. Here are the steps you need to follow:
      • Make sure to cancel any active subscription or update to a new payment method.
      • You can check if there are any remaining resources or subscriptions that are incurring charges.
      • After clearing the balance, you can go to Cost Management + Billing in the Azure portal, select Payment methods, and delete your card if it’s not in use.

    Follow-up questions:

To assist you better, could you clarify the following:

    • Can you check if there are any subscriptions or resources that might be causing the charge?
    • Have you received any notifications from Azure regarding the usage of services that are not free?
    • Have you already explored the billing options in the Azure portal regarding your payment methods?

I hope this helps, and feel free to ask if you have any more questions or need more specific guidance!
