Hello Jose Guerrero, thanks for posting this in our community.

The error “We found a problem with some content…” usually happens when the workbook contains corrupted elements or unsupported content. Common causes include a damaged XML structure inside the .xlsx file, broken links or invalid formulas, corrupted objects such as charts or PivotTables, issues introduced by third-party add-ins or macros, or the file being saved incorrectly or interrupted during the save process.

When Excel prompts you to recover, click Yes to allow Excel to repair the file. After recovery, save the repaired file under a new name and review the Repair Log to see what was fixed or removed.

If the automatic repair does not fully resolve the issue, try opening Excel in Safe Mode by running excel.exe /safe from the Run dialog and then opening the file. This disables add-ins and can help isolate the problem. You can also disable add-ins manually by going to File > Options > Add-ins and turning off COM and Excel Add-ins before reopening the file.

If the file remains problematic, rename the file extension from .xlsx to .zip, open the ZIP archive, and inspect the xl/worksheets or xl/sharedStrings.xml files for corruption. Remove or replace any problematic XML files. Another option is to copy the data into a new workbook if the file opens partially, avoiding any corrupted objects such as charts or PivotTables.

For advanced recovery, use the Open and Repair feature in Excel by going to File > Open > Browse, selecting the file, clicking the arrow next to Open, and choosing Open and Repair. You can also restore a previous version by right-clicking the file, selecting Properties, and checking Previous Versions if available. If the file is stored in OneDrive or SharePoint, you can restore it from version history.

    Kind regards,

    John Oli
