Thanks for sharing the details, Norm! Try to repair File Permissions in the Excel Startup Folder

When the permissions get corrupted, Excel loads normally but blocks saving because it cannot write temporary files.

    How to Fix It

Step 1 — Locate the Excel XLSTART folder

Copy and paste this in File Explorer:

    %appdata%\Microsoft\Excel\XLSTART

    Press Enter.

    Step 2 — Fix File/Folder Permissions

Right-click inside the folder (on empty space)

    Choose Properties

    Go to Security

    Click Edit

    Select your Windows user account

    Make sure these are checked:

    • Read & execute
    • List folder contents
    • Read
    • Write ← this one is the key

If Write is unchecked or greyed out → Excel cannot save.

    Click Apply

    Restart Excel

See if this helps. If you need further assistance just let me know.

    Best regards,

    Kimberly
